Michelle Thorsell, Principal, Receives Certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards
.Michelle Thorsell received Council Certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
Certification signifies that Michelle has met the profession's most objective standards of competence and demonstrates her support of NCARB's mission for public welfare. In order to achiece this certification Michelle
had to demonstrate to NCARB the following characteristics:
1. Good Character: The Architect must be of good character as verified by employers and an NCARB member board where the Architect is registered.
2. Education:
The Architect must hold a professional degree in architecture from a program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) or the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) no later than two years after graduation, or hold a professional degree in architecture, certified by the CACB, from a Canadian university.
3. Training: The Architect must satisfy the necessary training requirements.
4. Examination:
The Architect must have passed either the NCARB Architect Registration Examination (ARE); or the NCARB Professional Examination, including either the Qualifying Test or the Equivalency Examination, when required by NCARB standards; or the NCARB examination syllabus, provided such examinations and the pass/fail standards applied were in accordance with NCARB standards current at the time they took the examination.
5. Registration: The Architect must hold a current registration to practice architecture issued by an NCARB member board.
6. General:
In evaluating qualifications, NCARB may, prior to certification, require the Architect to substantiate the quality and character of their experience, even if you they met the technical requirements set forth above.
By earning NCARB certification, architects often expedite reciprocity—the process through which they can offer their professional services in different jurisdictions. All licensed, certified architects have met the
rigorous standards established by U.S. registration boards that are responsible for protecting the public health, safety, and welfare.
To confirm that an individual is a licensed architect in a particular
jurisdiction, check with the respective NCARB member board or visit the ' Is Your Architect NCARB-Certified
?' section of the NCARB web site. November 2001
SMT Architects, P.C. Receives Inaugural 'GoundBreakers Firm of the Year' Award From the Capitol Development Board of the Illinois
.The Capital Development Board of Illinois announced that SMT Architects, P.C. has received the
inaugural 'GroundBreakers Firm of the Year' award for the Moraine View State Park project that was completed for CDB and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The award was presented at the
14th Annual Madigan Awards luncheon held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield, IL on November 30, 2001. On hand to receive the award was Michelle Thorsell, ALA (Principal). SMT Architects was selected
to receive this award in recognition of their ability to exhibit the partnership skills essential to the successful completion of a CDB project. GroundBreakers is a program designed to expand the Capital
Development Board's partnership base. Its goals are two-fold. First, it seeks to attract new architectural and engineering firms to become pre-qualified to do work for CDB. Secondly, it provides opportunities for firms
gain CDB experience through work on smaller projects. HISTORYThe Madigan Awards were first presented by the Capital Development Board in
1988. Now in its 14th year, the program continues to recognize outstanding project team efforts in the completion of CDB construction and renovation projects.
The Madigan Awards are not design or construction awards. They are awards presented to all parties involved in the successful completion of state construction
projects: user agencies, CDB project managers, contractors and architects/engineers. Basically they recognize the partnership essential to the
successful completion of a CDB project. There have been more than 50 projects honored with Madigan Award selection , and more than 350 project team members honored, since the program began .
